MIKE REED’S SEPARATIST PARTY Sing the Color Blue – Vinyl LP (translucent blue | black)

Mike Reed’s Separatist Party return with Sing the Color Blue, a patient, shape-shifting set that brings Reed back together with Rob Frye, Cooper Crain, Dan Quinlivan of Bitchin Bajas, plus Marvin Tate and Ben LaMar Gay. It moves freely between composition, reconstruction, improvisation, and song form.

Built across numerous sessions, the album reflects years of persistence and transformation. Elements stretch back nearly a decade, beginning in January 2022 at Constellation in Chicago, with most recording completed between November 2023 and April 2024 at Electrical Audio.

Reed kept returning to the material until its final structure emerged, reshaping fragments of Tate’s words and performances into newly composed lyrical forms. The title Sing the Color Blue, inspired by wardrobe, Bauhaus aesthetics, and a documentary phrase about “dance the color blue,” turns mood, memory, and Chicago history into sound.
